From April 12 to 19, 2019, fourteen high school students from northern Virginia attended a service learning trip hosted by MEDLIFE to Lima, Peru. This group of students brought quality health care to 231 people with limited access to medical care. In addition, they helped create a beautiful public green space in the community of A.H. Las Vegas which will provide community members a place to play, work, and grow together.

"I gained so much knowledge on the trip by learning directly from medical professionals and being able to participate in hands on activities in the clinic. We had a lot of responsibility, and I was honored to witness the teamwork of everyone working together to help a community. The service trip to Peru taught me not only more about medicine but also Peruvian culture. We watched their dance, ate local food, learned some Spanish, and we were able to witness the situation of the economy. I am so excited to go back next year!"
"This trip was well worth its experience. With a group of friends, we were all able to help communities with limited access to medical needs. This eye opening experience made me feel what people have said about these communities first hand. I learned that even with unfavorable living styles, people can still make the most out of what they still have, not dreading over what they don't."
"Volunteering with MEDLIFE NoVA has been a great opportunity for me and I'm so glad I was able to go on a service learning trip to Peru with such an amazing organization! The trip was very humbling and made me realize how privileged I am for having readily available healthcare around me. I hope to continue to volunteer with MEDLIFE NoVA abroad and in our local community!"
